Join Rivian as a Research Intern designing and testing low voltage electronics with hands-on experience in automation and data analysis.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing equipment testing, automation, data collection, and data analysis scripts using Python, MATLAB, and C on microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, Nordic, etc.)
- Utilizing CAN Bus tools (PCAN, etc.) for testing and data collection
- Completing deliverables involving testing, data collection, and proof-of-concept development using interconnected evaluation kits, custom PCBAs, firmware development, and simple mechanical design
About You
The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
- Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronics
- Located in Champaign, IL, and able to work out of the office in Research Park
- Available for at least 15-20 hours per week in Fall and Spring, and 40 hours in Summer
- Familiarity with lab equipment such as power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, and multimeters
- Ability to understand sensor datasheets (gain, offset, preload, etc.) and read circuit schematics/layouts
- Ability to modify or develop data collection and analysis scripts in Python
- Ability to design simple mechanical structures/enclosures for 3D printing
- Preferred: ability to design custom circuit schematics and supervise PCB layout
- Preferred: prior research experience related to hardware data collection systems and/or sensing systems
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly pay range: $33.00 - $40.00, determined by location and other legal factors
