Support sustainable building performance analysis and design at Arup, a global consultancy driving innovative solutions for the built environment.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting building performance analysis through lifecycle cost, water balance, energy optimization, renewable energy feasibility, carbon calculations, and resilience assessments under senior guidance
  • Participating in design, analysis, and strategy development of decarbonized energy systems including MEP systems, energy efficiency, electrification, on-site renewables, storage, and net-zero grid interactive projects
  • Working towards proficiency in thermal simulations and analysis for energy, carbon, and comfort goals
  • Assisting senior staff in delivering sustainable design and analysis work
  • Preparing written reports, visuals, graphics, and project deliverables for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Participating in early design charrettes and workshops to enhance sustainability and design coordination
  • Contributing to projects at various stages and scales, from single measures to master-planning and infrastructure developments
  • Conducting research on sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and equity topics
  • Conducting site visits for field data collection and participating in client meetings with senior team members
  • Contributing to project deliverables including presentations and reports, managing sub-tasks to track deliverables and schedules

About You

The company is looking for:

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree related to sustainability in the built environment or building science; bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, or Public Health Engineering, or similar preferred
  • Knowledge of building systems and design including building fabric, lighting control, HVAC, renewable energy, solar shading, daylighting, and mechanical plant sizing
  • Familiarity with building energy simulation and whole-life carbon software such as EnergyPlus, IES VE, Rhino + Grasshopper, SketchUp, OpenStudio, Tally, Athena Impact Estimator, One Click LCA
  • Understanding of sustainability frameworks like LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Living Building Challenge, Envision
  • Successful completion of coursework in sustainability, energy, operational/embodied carbon, climate change, resilience, lifecycle costs, distributed energy resources
  • Professional accreditation under sustainability rating frameworks such as LEED or WELL preferred
  • Excellent time management with ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional research, writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and interactive Adobe PDFs
  • Eligibility to work in the US without employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future

Compensation & Benefits

  • Los Angeles salary range: $24/hour to $43/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and skill level; benefits not included
  • San Francisco salary range: $26.50/hour to $47.50/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and skill level; benefits not included
