The Student Surgical Technologist Intern provides patient care under RN supervision, gaining hands-on surgical technology experience at Mayo Clinic.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse across the continuum of care.
- Communicating with surgical staff regarding instrumentation, surgical procedures, and sterility.
- Scrubbing alongside a certified surgical technologist in the sterile role.
- Applying principles of aseptic technique in the perioperative environment.
- Developing practical skills to work competently as a surgical technologist.
- Attaining professional interpersonal communication skills with patients and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
About You
The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited surgical technology program, in good standing, with at least one semester completed.
- Basic knowledge and hands-on skills related to aseptic surgical techniques for instrumentation, supplies, and equipment preparation.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association, valid through the internship period.
- Availability to work full-time from June 1, 2026, through August 7, 2026.
- Preferred: at least 100 clinical hours and comprehensive understanding of surgical processes and procedures.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable perioperative situations and communicate empathetically and effectively with diverse individuals.
