Join Tesla’s Safety Team internship to contribute to innovative vehicle safety systems and collaborate with industry experts on cutting-edge projects.
Your Role
Here’s what you will be doing:
- Work on Tesla’s Safety Team focusing on collision avoidance, structural integrity, crashworthiness, manufacturing safety, and cybersecurity.
- Design, release, and launch seat belt system components for current and future vehicle platforms under mentorship.
- Engage in the full design cycle including conceptualization, CAD design, testing, manufacturing, and implementation.
- Collaborate with vehicle design teams such as interiors, body, firmware, and manufacturing to integrate components.
- Support design and implementation of passive safety systems in new vehicles.
- Participate in R&D projects, hands-on prototyping, electro-mechanical system integration, and testing activities.
About You
The company is looking for candidates with:
- Current enrollment in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with 3Dx or Catia V5, Python, LS-DYNA.
- Familiarity with data acquisition equipment, accelerometers, pressure transducers, system design, and biomechanics.
- Prior CAD part and assembly design experience.
- Previous experience in safety and basic coding (e.g., Arduino), motor control projects preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing technologies, material selection, and Design for Manufacturing including GD&T.
- Hands-on experience with tools, machine shop equipment, electronics, wiring, and soldering.
- Graphing experience using programs such as Hyperworks/Hypergraph.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to collaborate across teams balancing competing constraints.
- Prior internship or work experience in product design and/or automotive engineering is a plus.

Training & Development
Interns will grow technically, professionally, and personally through close collaboration with Managers, Mentors, and teams, gaining hands-on experience on critical projects.
How to Apply
Applicants must be actively enrolled in an academic program and able to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks full-time (40 hours/week) on-site starting May 2026 through summer term. International students using CPT should verify work authorization for full-time hours before applying.
