The University of Miami's UHealth System seeks a Per Diem Respiratory Therapy Intern to assist clinicians and gain on-the-job training toward becoming a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) in conducting tests such as electrocardiograms, stress testing, and lung capacity evaluations.
- Helping with bronchopulmonary drainage and instructing patients on breathing exercises.
- Setting up and operating respiratory therapy devices including noninvasive ventilators and aerosol generators.
- Observing proper techniques for collection and handling of arterial blood gas specimens.
- Learning to explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
- Assisting in patient and family education on conditions and disease management techniques.
- Monitoring patients’ physiological responses to therapy under supervision.
- Maintaining patient charts with identification and therapy information.
- Inspecting, cleaning, testing, and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Adhering to University and unit-level policies and safeguarding University assets.
About You
The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
- No prior experience required.
