Research Intern at Microsoft Research focusing on multimodal learning, collaborating globally on cutting-edge AI technology.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct research on physics-informed multimodal learning, generation, and foundation model training across vision, text, audio, code, and system modalities.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers across Microsoft Research labs in Vancouver, Redmond, and Cambridge.
- Explore next-generation multimodal learning and generation paradigms to unlock new intelligence capabilities.
- Conduct thorough research on emerging trends in LLM, prompt engineering, and multimodal foundation models.
- Prepare detailed documentation of simulations, methodologies, and findings.
- Present results and insights to team members and stakeholders.
- Identify challenges and bottlenecks in AI infrastructure and propose innovative solutions.
- Collaborate with mentors and other Research Interns during the 12-week internship, contributing to the research community.
About You
What you'll need:
- Currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
- Willingness to embrace knowledge and techniques outside your field of research.
- Solid programming skills in Python and PyTorch, with experience conducting experiments and writing papers.
- Experience in LLM pre-training, post-training, and inference.
- Experience with Reinforcement Learning and frameworks such as VeRL and rLLM.
- Relevant publications in conferences such as CVPR, ACL, ICML, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, EMNLP, etc.
- Research Interns must be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the internship duration.
- Submission of a minimum of two reference letters, a cover letter, and relevant work or research samples is required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Applied Sciences IC2 base pay range: USD $5,610 - $11,010 per month (higher range for San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area: USD $7,270 - $12,030 per month).
