Research Interns at Microsoft Research Asia Vancouver lab will work on cutting-edge AI projects, collaborating globally to advance artificial intelligence applications.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Work on artificial intelligence projects including multimodality, world model, LLM, and computer vision.
  • Collaborate with Microsoft Research teams across Vancouver, Redmond, Beijing, and other labs.
  • Shape and develop next-generation artificial intelligence technologies aligned with MSR’s mission.
  • Explore various AI sectors relevant to Vancouver lab and Microsoft Research Asia.

About You

The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
  • Willingness to embrace knowledge and techniques outside your primary research field.
  • Solid programming skills including prototyping, implementation, and optimization.
  • Experience with LLM pre-training, post-training, and inference (e.g., Megatron framework).
  • Experience in world model, multimodality, and AI4Code.
  • Reinforcement Learning experience and familiarity with frameworks like VeRL, rLLM.
  • Proven publication record in top conferences such as CVPR, ACL, ICML, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, RSS.
  • Research Interns must be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the internship duration.
  • Submission of a cover letter, relevant work or research samples, and a minimum of two reference letters is required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Applied Sciences IC2: USD $5,460 - $10,680 per month (location-dependent; San Francisco Bay area and NYC range: $7,040 - $11,640).
  • Applied Sciences IC3: USD $6,550 - $12,880 per month (location-dependent; San Francisco Bay area and NYC range: $8,480 - $13,920).
