Join Tesla as a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern to develop innovative service tools for the Robotaxi fleet, contributing to sustainable energy solutions.
Your Role
Here’s what you will be doing:
- Assist in the design and development of service equipment, tools, jigs, and testing fixtures
- Collaborate with senior engineers and technicians to understand tooling requirements and contribute to solutions
- Create and maintain design documentation, including 3D CAD models and 2D drawings
- Participate in hands-on prototyping, building, and testing of new tooling designs in labs
- Support the team in developing tooling solutions for vehicle platforms used in service centers globally
About You
What you'll need:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, Fusion 360) through coursework or personal projects
- Strong desire to learn and a hands-on approach to problem-solving
- Excellent problem-solving skills rooted in first principles thinking
- Foundational understanding of common manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, welding, 3D printing)
- Previous internship experience or involvement in student engineering teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Robotics) preferred
- Strong interest in automation, robotics, or electric vehicles preferred
- Exposure to electronics or software development preferred
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles preferred
