Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Engineering Internship (May 2026)

Mechanical Design Engineering internship at Tesla offers hands-on experience in vehicle component design, analysis, and validation across multiple engineering teams.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Work on all aspects of mechanical design including design, analysis, prototyping, and validation of Tesla vehicle components and systems
• Contribute to projects across various teams such as Chassis Engineering, Dimensional Engineering, Drive Systems, Exteriors & Interiors Design Engineering, Motor Design, New Programs Engineering, Powertrain Development, Safety & Restraints Engineering, Structures Design Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Vehicle Dynamics, and Vehicle Integration
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners, external vendors, and suppliers
• Develop creative solutions to meet quality and cost-down targets

About You

What you'll need:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software; CATIA proficiency is a plus
• Experience creating engineering drawings; GD&T experience is a plus
• Proven interest in mechanical design engineering through extracurricular activities, academic projects, or equivalent experiences; automotive or sustainability interest is a plus
• Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals
• Eagerness to collaborate cross-functionally and ability to work independently
• Detail-oriented and execution focused
• Genuine curiosity about product design, build, and operation
