Join ABB as a Lean Challenge Intern in Richmond, VA, supporting cross-functional projects to improve processes and efficiency.
Your Role
Here’s what you will be doing:
- Obtain feedback from critical stakeholders involved in new product or process improvement
- Work with cross-functional teams to execute projects on time and on budget
- Develop and maintain web-based applications to improve process efficiency and eliminate waste
- Find, pitch, and execute improvement ideas into full projects if approved
- Document best practices discovered and/or standards implemented
- Participate in local and international competition developing continuous improvement team projects based on quality wins and lean manufacturing principles
About You
The company is looking for:
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering in the United States
- Reliable transportation to and from the worksite
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future
- Critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
- Capability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high quality standards
- Collaboration skills to convey ideas, share information, and provide project updates
Preferred qualifications:
- Application of Lean Methodology tools (5’s, DMAIC, Kanban, VSM, Line balancing)
- Experience in a manufacturing environment (projects or internships)
- Lean training or certifications preferred but not required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- Experience participating in a team environment
- Ability to implement digital or automated solutions (Industry 4.0)
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate between $20 - $34, based on qualifications, graduation year, and experience
- Internships are not eligible for company-sponsored medical benefits, 401(k) contributions, or paid time off
