Arcadis seeks an Instrumentation & Controls Intern to support I&C, automation, and SCADA projects in water and wastewater systems.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with preparation of design and construction documents for I&C and SCADA projects
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Develop technical memoranda, design criteria, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Contribute to SCADA system architecture, network diagrams, and control schematics
  • Support project management tasks including budgeting, cost estimating, and scheduling
  • Participate in field visits to client sites and Arcadis offices
  • Assist with basic testing and startup of I&C and SCADA systems
  • Gain exposure to PLC and HMI configuration and programming activities

About You

What you'll need:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Interest in instrumentation and controls, automation, and SCADA system design
  • Basic understanding of PLC controls, SCADA systems, and industrial processes (coursework or project experience)
  • Willingness to travel locally (up to 25%) and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Preferred: Coursework or familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit
  • Preferred: Exposure to instrumentation and controls for process and electromechanical equipment
  • Preferred: Interest in IT, industrial networks, or SCADA networks
  • Preferred: Familiarity with HMI/PLC platforms (academic projects or labs)
  • Preferred: Previous internship or project experience in the water/wastewater industry (a plus)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly salary range: $18.00 - $26.00, based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location
