Join Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP as a Highway Engineering Intern to assist in roadway design and infrastructure projects in a collaborative, innovative environment.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Assist in the development of roadway alignments, profiles, and typical sections
  • Prepare construction plans for roadway geometrics, signing and pavement markings, maintenance of traffic (MOT), and erosion and sediment control
  • Perform drainage and stormwater design tasks in coordination with senior engineers
  • Utilize design software (e.g., Microstation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD) to produce plan sets and 3D models
  • Support preparation of construction specifications, quantity calculations, and cost estimates
  • Contribute to technical reports, studies, and design documentation
  • Assist in preparing materials for client meetings, public meetings, and agency submissions
  • Coordinate with internal design disciplines (structures, traffic, utilities) to integrate design elements
  • Participate in occasional site visits for data collection, field verification, or design support
  • Coordinate with senior engineers on permitting requirements and utility research
  • Work under the guidance of experienced engineers who will provide mentoring and support toward your professional growth

About You

The company is looking for:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Experience working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD; knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future (no visa sponsorship available)
