Environment, Health & Safety Spring Intern (Mar 2026)

L3Harris seeks an Environmental Health & Safety Intern to support compliance, audits, and environmental risk management in Herndon, VA.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Participate in development, implementation, and maintenance of an Environmental Health and Safety Management System.
• Develop and deploy programs for prevention and control of environmental risks, including compliance with air permits, construction permits, waste management, wastewater operations, release notifications, and environmental reporting.
• Conduct site-wide environmental, health, and safety audits; analyze results, recommend corrective actions, communicate findings, and follow up on issues.
• Ensure prompt reporting of all environmental, health, and safety incidents.
• Review and approve operations/facilities projects involving modifications or new processes, equipment, or materials to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Lead site air permit compliance program, including record collection, inspection oversight, reporting, deviation and change management, and employee training.
• Manage site wastewater operations, maintain compliance records, complete reporting, and submit forms to Municipal and/or State agencies timely.

About You

The company is looking for:

• Applicants pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Science, Chemical, or Engineering fields with anticipated graduation in Spring/Summer 2026 or recent graduates within the last 12 months.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Preferred experience in preparing Tier II and TRI/Form R reports, NPDES wastewater and storm water reports, and hazardous/residual waste reports.
• Certifications such as FE, CHMM, and/or ASP/CSP are a plus.
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain flexibility, and work independently.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range varies by location: $25.00 to $47.50 per hour in CA, MA, NJ, WA, Greater D.C., Denver, NYC areas; $22.00 to $40.50 per hour in CO, HI, IL, MD, MN, NY state, Cleveland OH, and VT.
