Join Sargent & Lundy as an Electrical Engineering Intern to support nuclear power projects, including SMRs and advanced reactors, starting summer 2026.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in preparing engineering calculations and design tasks for large nuclear power generating stations, including protection and coordination studies, cable sizing, medium and low voltage system design, DC battery sizing, and safety-related system analyses.
  • Utilize industry-standard software tools like ETAP for power systems analysis and modeling of complex electrical networks.
  • Support design, selection, and integration of major electrical power equipment such as switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, breakers, and relays.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and participate in technical training sessions and reviews.
  • Gain exposure to station-specific procedures and interface with client stakeholders including Operations and Systems Engineering representatives.
  • Work with designers and drafters to translate engineering concepts into detailed drawings supporting project deliverables.
  • Develop professional skills by working within fixed project schedules and budgets, learning time management and collaboration tools.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers and gain insight into the pathway to professional licensure, including mentorship.
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary mock engineering project based on real-world examples, collaborating with peers to solve complex design challenges and present solutions to senior staff.

About You

The company is looking for:

  • Active enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a strong academic background and coursework.
  • Preferably enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valued but not required: prior related internship or co-op experience.
  • Valued but not required: understanding of practical application of electrical and mechanical engineering principles and project design techniques.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $17.50 - $27.00.
