Contribute to the design and programming of automation equipment and assembly lines at Tesla’s advanced production facilities.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and layout industrial electrical control panels compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards and create electrical schematics
  • Develop and debug ladder logic PLC code emphasizing organization, documentation, maintainability, and reusability
  • Interface with conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and LabView
  • Implement ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant safety control systems
  • Create simple, effective HMI screens for complex machinery with troubleshooting feedback
  • Commission vision cameras for part inspection and 2D/3D guidance (Cognex, Keyence)
  • Manage and implement small machine projects from start to finish
  • Work under guidance of Controls Engineers in departments such as Automation Development, Vehicle Manufacturing, Paint Manufacturing, or Powertrain Manufacturing

About You

The company is looking for:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Coursework in analog and digital circuits, control systems, logic, and programming
  • Exposure to programming microcontrollers
  • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks)
  • Ability to work under pressure managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Preference for candidates with a propensity to build, assemble, fix, and program
  • Use of common power and hand tools preferred
  • Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and programming experience in C++, Python, SQL or similar preferred
  • Preferred experience with industrial electrical panel design, PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff or similar), HMI/SCADA programming (Allen-Bradley, Ignition or similar), industrial robots (Fanuc, Kuka or similar), and servo motors/controllers (Kinetix or similar)

Training & Development

The internship program offers growth through close collaboration with Managers, Mentors, and teams, providing technical, professional, and personal development by working on critical projects within Tesla’s production environment.

How to Apply

Applicants must be actively enrolled in an academic program and able to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks full-time (40 hours/week) on-site starting May 2026 through summer term. International students using CPT should verify work authorization for 40 hours per week on-site before applying.
