Join CDM Smith as a Climate Resiliency and Planning Intern supporting hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, and resilience planning projects with FEMA and other clients.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Support developing options and analysis papers, fact sheets, and other internal and external-facing documents.
  • Support data evaluation tasks to develop program efficiencies and improvements.
  • Use Benefit-Cost Analysis tools.
  • Prepare analysis, summaries, and presentation material based on assigned tasks.
  • Support the implementation of hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, and resilience planning programs for FEMA, state, and local clients.
  • Perform data analysis, use GIS systems, and complete other ad-hoc assignments as needed.

About You

The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications and skills:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program.
  • Preferred U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a FEMA badge, including a background investigation for a Public Trust position.
  • Ideal candidates are students in Planning, Emergency Management, Policy, Engineering, or Science.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely for diverse audiences including technical staff, policymakers, and the public.
  • Ability to work with qualitative and quantitative data from academic, governmental, and industry sources.
  • Critical thinking skills to identify assumptions, evaluate arguments, and recommend improvements.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $21.07 to $39.36 per hour, varying by geographic location and candidate experience.
  • Discretionary bonuses may apply.
