Civil Engineering Intern (May 2026)

Join CDM Smith as a Civil Engineering intern supporting water services projects with design, research, and data analysis in Carlsbad.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Assist senior engineers with engineering designs involving site layout, grading, drainage, hydraulics, hydrology, water distribution, collection systems, stormwater infrastructure, treatment, and solid waste facilities
• Evaluate data for modeling and analyses to support planning and design projects
• Participate in site visits and fieldwork to collect additional data
• Compile and organize data, perform basis calculations and analysis
• Prepare technical documents and reports to disseminate information
• Use ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microsoft programs to present, analyze, and manage data

About You

The company is looking for:

• Currently enrolled and taking courses toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering degree
• Willingness to travel up to 10%

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay range: $24.76 to $42.62 per hour, varying by geographic location and experience
• Discretionary bonuses may apply
