Civil Engineer Intern to assist with site design for renewable energy and industrial projects at Sargent & Lundy’s Energy & Industrial Group.
Your Role
Here’s what you will be doing:
- Assist civil project engineers in executing project work related to wind, solar, nuclear, fossil fuel power plants, electrical substations, and heavy industrial facilities.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, and engineering reports.
- Evaluate mass earthwork cut and fill quantities and site grading layouts.
- Prepare layouts for stormwater and sanitary drainage systems.
- Assist in layout of plant roadways and trackwork systems.
- Develop pond and landfill system designs for raw water, wastewater, and coal ash management.
- Work with civil project designers to accurately portray designs in 3-D models and design drawings.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplined project teams under the direction of experienced civil engineers.
About You
The company is looking for:
- Expected graduation date in Winter 2026 or Spring 2027 toward a BS in Civil Engineering.
- Solid understanding of basic civil and geotechnical engineering concepts.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Preferred but not required: enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Preferred but not required: prior related internship or co-op experience.
- Preferred but not required: knowledge of Civil 3D, StormCAD, PondPack, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.
