Join Tesla as a Backend Software Engineer Intern to develop and maintain diagnostic platforms that enhance vehicle service and privacy.
Your Role
Here’s what you will be doing:
- Build and maintain highly available mission-critical applications and dashboards with appealing visual designs
- Contribute to the full software lifecycle including design, backend development, documentation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Improve diagnostic simplicity, meet regulatory compliance, and build proactive diagnostic systems
- Maintain and enhance Tesla’s web-based diagnostics platform
- Debug production issues, perform root cause analysis, and apply timely fixes
- Participate in architectural improvements to support a growing user base
- Enhance application security, reliability, scalability, and performance of Tesla’s diagnostic platform
- Collaborate across teams including Automation, Onboarding, Privacy, and Toolbox located in Palo Alto, CA and Austin, TX
About You
The company is looking for:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with graduation between May 2026 and December 2027
- Demonstrated ability with SQL and understanding of complex relational database schemas
- Experience with backend languages, libraries, and frameworks such as Python, Golang, Django, Flask
- Previous experience building and working with REST APIs
- Attention to detail and ability to work across the stack in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
- Passion for sustainable energy
- Availability to work full-time on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks starting January 2026
- International students must verify CPT work authorization for 40 hours per week on-site
