L3Harris seeks an Associate Mechanical Engineer to support new product development and factory support, focusing on structural and thermal design analysis for defense industry applications.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing mechanical engineering support for new product development and factory support of existing products
- Translating product requirements into mechanical specifications and test plans
- Executing verification testing as defined by specifications and test plans
- Conducting structural and thermal design analysis and testing to meet customer requirements
- Understanding customer needs, generating test procedures, and executing tests
- Generating and processing engineering change orders (ECOs)
- Collaborating with mechanical designers on CAD models and part documentation
- Performing structural engineering tasks including analysis of aircraft modifications and preparation of technical documentation for airworthiness
- Determining stress levels in aircraft structures, systems, and equipment, predicting failure and structural instabilities
- Supporting sustainment engineering activities such as installation coordination, maintenance, repair, and mission equipment installations
- Supporting transition from engineering design to manufacturing, assembly, and aircraft installation
- Applying principles supporting aircraft life cycle maintenance including repair, rework, and replacement parts design
- Working on a variety of tasks and aircraft systems across multiple aircraft platforms
About You
The company is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:
- Pursuing or recently completed (within 12 months) a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Materials Science Engineering
- Exposure to CAD or analysis (FEA) tools and/or experience in mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems, structures, and mechanisms
- Familiarity with transducer instrumentation, data collection, automation, and software programming for numerical analysis
- Ability to apply principles of Structural Mechanics to predict internal stresses and structural instabilities
- Ability to generate free body diagrams, determine reaction forces, calculate internal loads, and develop shear and moment diagrams
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language
- Familiarity with finite element methods and fatigue and damage tolerance principles
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range in NYC area: $67,000 - $123,500 (final offer varies by experience and location)
