Join ABB Robotics as an intern contributing to cutting-edge robotics research and innovation in a fast-paced, collaborative environment in San Jose, CA.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to robotics research projects, including AMMR (Autonomous Mobile Manipulation Robot) and Physical AI.
  • Design and implement demos such as AMMR navigation, electronics inspection, or next-generation robotics showcases.
  • Support path research planning with focus on collision-free (CFree) planning.
  • Collaborate with external teams on electronics inspection prototypes and testing.
  • Explore and prototype demos highlighting robotics innovation and real-world applications.
  • Help prepare reports and presentations for management reviews.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects to enhance R&D efficiency.
  • Engage in team meetings and contribute ideas for optimizing R&D operations.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the R&D team.

About You

The company is looking for:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or PhD program in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field in the United States.
  • Strong background in robotics algorithms, especially motion planning and/or perception.
  • Experience with robotic simulation tools (e.g., ROS, Gazebo, Isaac Sim) or path planning libraries is a plus.
  • Familiarity with electronics inspection or computer vision techniques.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Collaborative skills to convey ideas, share information, and provide project updates.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate between $20 - $34, based on qualifications, graduation year, and experience.
  • Internships within the United States are not eligible for company-sponsored medical benefits, 401(k) contributions, or paid time off.
