AI Hardware Research Intern (Jun 2026)

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Conduct research on chip architectures for efficient AI serving.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers across Microsoft Research labs.
• Develop and implement advanced technology in artificial intelligence, hardware design, and computer architecture.
• Prepare detailed documentation of simulations, methodologies, and findings.
• Present results and insights to team members and stakeholders.
• Engage in innovation and problem-solving across multiple disciplines.
• Participate in a 12-week internship paired with mentors and collaborate with fellow interns.

About You

The company is looking for:

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
• Willingness to embrace knowledge outside your field of research interest.
• Experience in computer architecture and hardware design research.
• Experience conducting experiments and writing research papers.
• Programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
• Knowledge of ML, AI, and large language model (LLM) concepts.
• Relevant publications in conferences such as ISCA, MICRO, ASPLOS, HPCA, CVPR, ACL, ICML, NeurIPS, etc.
• Research Interns must be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the internship duration.
• Submission of a cover letter, relevant work or research samples, and a minimum of two reference letters is required.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range for Applied Sciences IC2 internship: USD $5,610 - $11,010 per month (varies by location).
• Higher pay range for San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area: USD $7,270 - $12,030 per month.
