Internship opportunity in Aerodynamics and Thermal Engineering at Tesla, focusing on HVAC and refrigeration system design and simulation in Fremont, CA.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and conduct hands-on experiments with HVAC and refrigeration components and system prototypes
- Perform 1D modeling and CFD simulation (single phase and multiphase) of thermal components such as heat exchangers, compressors, pumps, blowers, flow distribution, and power electronics
- Develop and validate thermal and fluid models for hardware and controls optimization
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers in Aerodynamics and Thermal Engineering
- Contribute to the system-level thermal architecture of radiators, heat exchangers, compressors, fans, pumps, and blowers for Tesla vehicles
About You
The company is looking for candidates who have:
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering or related degree program
- First-principles physics understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and electrical fundamentals
- Experience designing, testing, or characterizing refrigeration components and systems
- Experience developing refrigeration component and system numerical models
- Experience with electronics cooling
- Proficiency in numerical simulation software such as STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, FloTHERM, or Ansys Icepak
